Stomach Bug :(

Friday I took Colby to play with Conner and they enjoyed playing outside. Saturday morning Angie called me and said that Conner woke up vomiting. She took him to the doctor and it was a stomach virus so she warned me that Colby probably got it. He was fine Saturday and showed no signs of being ill. Sunday morning he got up and ate a bowl of oatmeal, two bananas, and two cups of milk. Daddy was sleeping late so we went to wake him. Colby crawled right on top of Chris and started laughing. Right when Chris woke up Colby projectiled his breakfast all over daddy and all over the bed! I'm not sure what I was thinking but I tried to catch the vomit in my hands. My hands filled up and I had to run to the bathroom to throw it in the sink. It was quite a sight! I guess being a mom makes you do some pretty gross things and not even think twice about it hehe! I was worried because Angie said Conner vomited all day, had horrible diarrhea, and wouldn't eat a bite of food all day so, I said a prayer and hoped for the best! He was very fortunate because he was fine the rest of the day, didn't vomit again, and of course ate like a piggy!

Things I love at 13 months old!

1. When we read books, Colby signs all the pictures he sees. It's like he is reading the book to me. He gets so excited and we are actually having a conversation, it's wonderful!

2. Colby throws food down to Bentley so now their best friends! Bentley gets in the chair during story time and Colby pats his head while I read. Bentley lets Colby get his toys and Colby runs all over the house with Bentley chasing him.

3. Colby tells people Hi

4. When people leave our house he looks out of the window for 5 minutes saying bye bye

5. After he uses the potty, he jumps up real quick to turn around and look in the potty and he has started to say poo poo. He also can flush the potty now which he thinks is the best part!

6. He likes to put his head under the running water in the bath tub.

7. He has 32 signs in his vocabulary.

8. He is learning to play on his own. He will look at books in his room while I cook dinner and he will play with his toys in the living room and not get mad when I put up clothes :)

9. He is fascinated with his belly-button and wants to show us and then he wants to get ours.

10. He is so happy and loves to smile at everything!

11. He is obsessed with music! We listen to children's music all day and he dances out of control. He even shakes his hips, it's hilarious! The boy even dances when the phone rings.

12. He likes to tell us what animals sound like. He does the lion, cow, sheep, and monkey.

Colby"s Unbelievable Signing Moment!

Last night was the biggest milestone for Colby's signing. Colby is notorious for pooping in the bathtub. He was taking a bath and signed out / potty because he had to poop. He basically said a sentence. He was saying get me out of the bathtub because I'm about to poop. Chris and I were shocked! It's unbelievable how smart babies are but just unable to communicate unless we give them the tool of sign language! I just hope he signs it every time because it gets old cleaning out the tub and sanitizing all the bath toys! I'm so proud of him!

The New Year!

Chris and I put Colby to bed and then we went to ring in the New Year with Louie and Carrie Garrett. You know you are getting old when you get excited about playing games on New Years Eve! I'm not bragging or anything but the Ladies took the guys down in catch phrase, eat your heart out Louie and Chris! Carrie looked adorable with her belly bump and I can't wait until little Trace gets here!

I made two New Years resolutions and they are to not miss church all year and to not worry about every little thing when it comes to Colby! I am a very logical person and I have this horrible habit of thinking there is one right answer for every situation. So, if it concerns Colby I can consume myself with researching every little thing. I also think being an early childhood education major doesn't help. I spent years in child psychology classes listening to how babies and children are effected by everything their parents do, and it literally made me a worry wart! Don't get me wrong, I will do what's best for Colby and I will be a responsible parent, but I'm going to let go of all the worry!

It's been unbelievable how Colby just all the sudden decided to sign everything. The other day he was eating cheerios and applesauce and kept signing more but then he wouldn't eat it. I asked him why was he he signing more but not eating and he signed cheese. I got him cheese and he was satisfied, I was amazed! Signing is wonderful because they can communicate what they want at such an early age. Colby's signing vocabulary now consist of; more, cheese, cheerios, water, milk, potty, tree, ice cream, airplane, fan, baby, all done, bath, sun, dog, out, and good-bye.
I've mentioned before that babies who sign learn to read very easily and early. Babies can learn the alphabet quickly if they learn to sign it. When it comes to children
* They hear, they forget it
*They see it they remember it
*They do it , they understand it

Here is a video of a two 1/2 year old that learned to sign the alphabet and then she started to sound out words. Reading is fun and easy for her!

We start a sing and sign class on January 16 at St. Dominics. It's on Wednesday at 5:00. If you are interested, you can still sign up. It's so much fun and the babies have such a good time.
I am so excited about becoming an instructor, and I can't wait to share this special gift with other parents!
