First Trip to New Orleans and the ER...Yikes!

I always imagined our first trip to the ER would consist of a broken bone, stitches, or maybe even a burn.  I've prepared myself for such an event since Colby thinks he can fly like Buzz Light Year, believes he can jump from any height and land safely (after all he is a super hero), and is convinced he is fireproof while helping me cook dinner.

Well....I was wrong!

We went to the ER Saturday night with Chase, but let me back track and maybe save you from making the same mistake.

Chase got sick two weeks ago and the only thing the doctor could find was redness in his ear and assumed it was in the first stages of an ear infection and was convinced he also had a viral infection (you know how it works....if the strep and flu test come back negative then the word viral fits the bill). He was suppose to take amoxicillian for 10 days but on the eighth day we went to New Orleans and dumb ole mom left it in the fridge. I don't know how I could do such a thing, I mean all I had to do was pack for 3 people for 6 days...ughhh!

Okay people, there is good reasoning behind the whole "ALWAYS FINISH THE ANTIBIOTIC" rule!

Friday night Chase was up from 9:30-4:00am whining and extremely restless. We  headed home early the next morning but once we got back he seemed fine. Bedtime started rolling around and his fever spiked really high, of course, now that our clinic was closed. After motrin, lots of rocking, and inconsolable crying, we took a trip to the ER. Chase was screaming so hard, I knew he was in pain with either a severe ear infection or a bad case of strep. In the waiting room Chase was all smiles and had the nurses cracking up because they could hear his belly laugh in the next room....I bet they thought we were nutty for bringing him to the ER. I guess that's just how the cookie crumbles........act horribly sick at home and have a party in the ER!!

After all the test were done, it was daja vu when the doc said, "strep and flu negative, but his ear is just a little red.....it's probably viral."

Are you kidding me? Aw man this is so my fault!

I told her I didn't finish his antibiotic and if looks could talk it wouldn't have been sweet! All she said was NOT GOOD! I appreciate such wise words, but I kinda already had that figured out! She ended up giving him a shot, probably since she feared I would forget to medicate my baby again......man I felt some kind of bad!!
She also put him back on an antibiotic and remarked, "finish the whole bottle!"

AHHHHH OKAY, I GET THE POINT ALREADY.....GEEZ!

On a happier note.....Chase was back to normal the next day and ready to put up the Christmas tree eat some garland!!

Our mini vaca to New Orleans was a blast!

The view was a hit with the boys.....they loved boat watching (thanks for the great tip Angie)!!

We had to break the beds in!

We took a 5 mile hike to find a place to eat and then Chris decided we should dine at our hotel sports grill......seriously! You better believe I wore my sneakers the next morning for the long voyage to Cafe de Monde for breakfast!
The beignets and coffee were worth the walk.....finger licking good!!

We thoroughly enjoyed the The Children's Museum! I can't wait for the one in Jackson to open this month!!

Colby did a little grocery shopping at the market......he has expensive taste!

 Fun for all!!!
We played it up at parks............

 Fed the ducks.....

snuck in some major cuddle time..............

took a ride on the trolley........

and was amazed at the aquarium!!
Chase just took it all in!!

We tried to get a family pic, but you know how that goes.
I love vacation with my boys!!

Chase....These Days

Chase is 9 months old and these days consist of......

eating socks
and grits! He loves to use a spoon, not necessarily as a tool to get food from bowl to mouth but rather
to spread food evenly across his face with a little extra on the eyelids!
Spoon + Grits = Bath time
Bath time is definitely on his fav list!

A few things that Chase could live without is......

a diaper change or changing clothes! What happens at 9 months old? He went from complete corporation during changes to catch me if you can and good luck keeping me down for the count!

The only behavior that I've had to correct thus far is him grabbing the night lights out of the sockets. He does it about 100,000,000 times a day and his grin grows larger with each attempt!
Loving this picture of himself is not vain.......he just thinks a picture of himself is so silly!
Chase's biggest accomplishment this month is mastering his walking skills!

He also enjoys jabbering.....mama, dada, bye bye, & hey! Baby talk is music to my ears......I heart it!

Chase's least favorite.....being sick! I could tell he was congested and not feeling too hot. If Chase cries at all, that means something is really wrong. The boy is 9 months old and has cried three tears.....yes THREE tears in his whole life! The doc said he almost had an ear infection so we treated it before it progressed any further.
He now knows what it's like to be sick and if Chase could have written out the prescription it might have looked something along the lines of....

limit sleep to NEVER
hugs and kisses in large doses every hour
cuddle time-24 HOURS a day
refills- unlimited

Until Next Time....

Elf on the Shelf has ma ma powas!!

Saturday Chris and Colby had a daddy day while I attended the Mistletoe Market. They indulged themselves with waffles at the Huttle House and then enjoyed their time together at the bookstore! Colby got his Elf on the Shelf and headed home to introduce him to his new family!!

Are you wondering what is Elf on the Shelf???

He was eager and busting at the seams to get his elf out of the box! Little did he know that it's against Santa's rules to touch his elves since it strips them of their magical powers...........or as Colby says, "ma ma powa!"

We opened the book to read the magical story of our elf and to start a fun-filled family tradition!

Chase's attention span endured the first page but found the rocking horse to be much more entertaining and......
the view outside more appealing, but....
 Colby was definitely intrigued!
Colby named him Snoopy and then printed his official adoption certificate!

That night Snoopy flew to the North Pole and reported Colby's bad good behavior, and then magically reappeared in the playroom where Colby tracked him down!
The look on Colby's face was priceless!! He wanted so badly to touch Snoopy, but he kept repeating, "no way, I not touch Snoopy, he lose his ma ma powas!"

Until Next Time..............
