Dentist Visit From Hell

Have you ever had a dentist visit from hell? It really isn't something I would wish to bestow upon anyone, but misery does love company, so suffice me with a YES!

I made appointments for both boys, and Chris was pretty positive he could slip away from work to give me some reinforcement! Colby has been going to the dentist since he was about 15 months, I knew he would be a breeze, but I was a little leery of Chasey Poo for his very first visit.

My phone has been hiding out since yesterday, which left me with  no means of contacting Chris. I just kept hanging onto the hope that he would pull up and save the day, to no avail. I even kept my eyes on all passing cars, even honked at one and then realized it wasn't Top Gun. I gave it up and told myself- this will not be that bad, these are my kids, and I can handle a little solo visit to the dentist.

I secured Josie in the sling, Chase in the umbrella stroller, and delegated Colby to push the stroller....all was good! Upon entering the office I was greeted with twenty papers to fill out- REALLY? Josie was grabbing my pen, ripping the paper, and drooling on the clipboard when I glanced up and noticed that Chase was scaling the window and about to rip the blinds down. Colby was playing perfectly with a puzzle when I interrupted - Colby, a little help, Please?!!!

He really is the best helper! Colby told Chase to get down in his firm voice and then entertained Josie while I tried to complete the paperwork. Just when things had settled down, a lady came out and said, "I guess you will have to finish it later, it's fifteen minutes after your appointment time, what time did you get here?"

Ummm....on time, this is quite time consuming with my circumstances!

I don't guess she has children! Does it kill people to be nice...come on!

She opened the door and the boys took off and were very enthused about their dentist visit! Chase hopped right up in the chair, ready to go!

He was finished in no time and then the nightmare began. Colby was perfect, just as I expected! While Colby was getting his teeth cleaned, I think Chase got a little sniff of the gas or something....he went buck wild! Thank goodness Colby didn't need my support since I was trying to corral wild man from climbing on the chairs, snatching toothbrushes, and knocking over the treat machine. Just when I thought we were done, it was only the calm before the storm. Colby was getting his x-rays done and Chase could not fathom the idea of being separated from brother so he thought it would be a good idea to collapse outside the door and protest with an ear-splitting scream, which scared the bajesus out of Josie and caused her to start hollering as well! The only way to calm her down at this point was to nurse, so I had to get Chase strapped in the stroller to prevent him from running off and being destructive...it's never fun trying to chase a two year old with a baby latched on your boob!

It was like putting him in a straight jacket, I kid you not. He was so combative that he flipped the stroller over and it looked as if he was having convulsions. I glanced through the tiny window to check on Colby and he shot me a thumbs up and a reassuring grin. I grinned back but it was short lived once I returned to the Tasmanian devil and the task at hand. I squatted in the hallway to nurse Josie and attempt to calm Chase down, and I met eyes with a dental student- I wonder what in the world she was thinking!

Colby was escorted out with high fives for his braveness, cooperation, and no cavities!

Chase was still trying to conquer the straps and Josie was wailing due to her unfinished meal when Dr. M said you guys are all done and literally pushed us out of the door.....she probably could careless about getting paid as long as we just got the hell out of her office!

It's a good thing I choose not to use physical punishment because in that moment I could completely understand how a parent would allow anger to win and go bonkers on a child. I was on the verge of losing it!!

I felt my blood boiling, and I was stressed to the max! I was trying to breath and focus on something positive and I began to have a conversation with Colby regarding his excellent behavior, manners, and pleasant attitude.....it did the trick, I was starting to relinquish all the negative emotions I was feeling towards my tyrant child! Colby was inquisitively starring at Chase and commented- I don't understand why he behaved like that. it just wasn't a good choice!

Oh heaven's to betsy, I couldn't agree more! My Colby man is maturing and developing an intruiging personality! It wasn't too long ago that he was the Tasmanian devil.....I remember those days all too well!
It really is a great reminder, THIS TOO SHALL PASS, when the twos pass!

I stopped on the way home and helped myself to some chocolate covered almonds at Fat Guy Cake....delish! Chase insisted that I share and if sharing meant quiet time then by all means, help yourselfl! When I went to get him out of the car I noticed he ate all the chocolate and spit out the almonds- LORD HELP ME!

That face is easy to forgive!

For some crazy reason, Colby stripped off his clothing and decided to sport a new attire-
Didn't feel too well when Chase pulled the sticker!

and baby girl was doing what she does best, smiling up a storm!!!

Until Next Time...........
